When Daniel Bryan went down with his long term injury, Roman Reigns was pushed quicker than the WWE expected. The original plan was to slow push Reigns until “Wrestlemania 31.” However, with Bryan out the WWE needed a new major face star and Reigns got pushed hard. However, PWS reported on Friday that the WWE won’t rush the world title opportunity for Reigns and will still wait until “Wrestlemania 31” for him to win the title.
There was discussion that, after “Night of Champions,” the WWE would go ahead and push Reigns into a world title match with Brock Lesnar. The thought was that the WWE would go ahead and pull the trigger on the title reign for Reigns or that he would lose to Lesnar and then reposition him for a big rematch at “Wrestlemania 31.”
Now, reports indicate that they won’t do either. Reigns is not ready for a world title reign at this time, so winning the belt now would be too soon. However, losing to Lesnar would also hurt Reigns push as the WWE needs to keep him very strong in his build to make the eventual title match an even bigger deal, almost like an immovable object against an irresistible force.
The WWE still sees Roman Reigns as the “chosen one” and they plan to wait until “Wrestlemania 31” to give him the big title shot. If it is against Brock Lesnar, Reigns would be the man to beat the man who ended the Undertaker’s streak and decimated the previously unbeatable hero John Cena. That would instantly give Roman Reigns his Wrestlemania moment and make him a giant star in the WWE.
