The Rob Van Dam WWE contract he signed with the company is about to come to an end. According to Wrestle View on Sept. 22, Van Dam's 90-day contract will expire a few weeks after the "Battleground" pay-per-view.
This goes in the face of original WWE rumors that said that Van Dam had a contract that allowed short time off every 90 days of his contract. The thought was that the first 90 days would end after "Battleground," and that he would take some time off as part of his deal.
However, it now turns out that the contract was only a 90-day deal and there is no deal in place yet for Van Dam to continue with the company after that.
This really makes the world championship match at "Battleground" between Rob Van Dam and Alberto Del Rio less interesting. If Van Dam's contract is ending, Del Rio is pretty much a lock to retain the title.
There are also WWE rumors that Ricardo Rodriguez will continue on with the company after Van Dam leaves, and possibly manage a returning Rey Mysterio.
There is also a chance that a new Rob Van Dam WWE contract is in place soon, as the company has offered him a new deal, but he has not yet accepted it. If he doesn't sign a new deal before "Battleground," that might be his final appearance with the WWE for now.
