In WWE rumors, the Rob Van Dam contract status could end up causing a heel turn this Sunday at the “Battleground” pay-per-view. Since RVD’s contract is ending and no new deal has been signed, prowrestling.com reported on Oct. 2 that the WWE is considering turning Ricardo Rodriguez bad and putting him back with Alberto Del Rio.
This doesn’t really make much sense, because Del Rio turned on Rodriguez by severely beating him and taking him out of commission. Rodriguez retaliated by bringing in Van Dam to get revenge. Why would they go through all the trouble of getting RVD a title match just to betray him?
Of course, this could also be a case of the beaten puppy syndrome, where no matter how bad Del Rio beats Rodriguez, his former ring announcer crawls back to him, making him more of a pathetic wrestler.
A better idea would be the original WWE rumor that said Rodriguez would team up with a returning Rey Mysterio, who could then go after Del Rio. This makes more sense and would give Mysterio a good launching pad for his much anticipated return to the WWE.
There are also WWE rumors that RVD will be back within three months, so he might not be finished with the company yet.
