WWE rumors: Reasons legends didn't appear on anniversary show

One of the biggest WWE rumors heading into the 20th anniversary episode of WWE Monday Night Raw was that legends from the past would return to help celebrate the big event. That never happened and WrestleZone reported on Jan. 15 that the reason was because Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels couldn't make it.

Austin and Michaels were in Las Vegas for the SHOT hunting convention, so neither man was in Houston to make the episode of Raw. The commitment to appear at the convention was a long standing commitment, so neither man could get out of the deal to appear at the show.

As a result, only two legends showed up on the show in Mick Foley and Ric Flair. This was easily explained because Foley was the first WWE Hall of Fame inductee announced in 2013 and Flair is coming back to the company.

However, people like Undertaker and Bret Hart were held off the show because the WWE didn't want Austin and Michaels to take heat by not showing up when other stars did. As a result, the WWE Monday Night Raw 20th anniversary felt like just any other show.
