WWE rumors: Reasons for the cancellation of the Intercontinental Cup

On "WWE Monday Night Raw," the promotion advertised an Intercontinental Cup tournament to determine the No. 1 contender that was going to play out on "WWE Main Event." However, it never happened. Now, PWInsider reports on Jan. 30 that the WWE made that change at the last minute.

Instead of the tournament beginning on "WWE Main Event," the show featured a rematch between Ryback and Antonio Cesaro, a match that ended the exact same way the last one did, and a match between Tensai and Titus Young, as Tensai has suddenly made a face turn.

Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett explained that he was responsible for the cancellation of the tournament when he convinced the WWE not to hold it. However, that was only for storyline purposes.

The real truth is that the WWE chose to drop it when they made a change to Barrett's future feuds after the Royal Rumble and "WWE Monday Night Raw." Instead of having the tournament to determine who Barrett would feud with, they will run with the idea of Barrett fighting Bo Dallas, the NXT youngster who eliminated him in the Royal Rumble and then pinned him on "Raw."

Wade Barrett attacked Bo Dallas, the son of WWE legend Mike "IRS" Rotundo, on WWE Main Event to continue their feud.
