The last time former WWE star Jake "The Snake" Roberts appeared in a professional wrestling ring, it was a sad reminder of how the man's life had spun out of control. However, after working with Diamond Dallas Page to lose weight and get his addiction demons under control, prowrestling.com reported on Feb. 2 that Roberts is about to start his farewell wrestling tour.
Roberts will start the farewell tour with "Night of Legends II: Unfinished Business" on April 13 in Waynesboro, Va. Roberts will both appear for a meet-and-greet to sign autographs for fans and also wrestle on the card.
Older wrestling fans may remember Roberts from his days as the best bad guy in all of wrestling. After making his name on the independent scene in Georgia as well as Bill Watts' Mid South Wrestling, he made his debut with the WWF and quickly became one of the most dangerous wrestling threats to the beloved faces of the era.
With his giant python, Roberts terrorized everyone from Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage to Andre the Giant and The Ultimate Warrior. He was known over his career as one of the smartest minds in the sport. He was also the catalyst for Stone Cold Steve Austin choosing his catch phrase "Austin 3:16."
However, Roberts' life soon fell apart thanks to drug alcohol and drug dependency and the documentary "Beyond the Mat" showed his struggles up close. Then, in 2012, Jake Roberts went to Diamond Dallas Page for help. Page has a Yoga business and promised he could change Roberts' life.
His rules stated that Roberts had to live in one of Page's Atlanta homes and stop drinking completely. One failed drug or alcohol test and Roberts was out. Jake succeeded and has lost over 50 pounds. Now, he wants to undertake a farewell tour and let fans see him at his best one last time to hopefully erase the memories of his past few years of embarrassments.
Maybe a WWE Hall of Fame announcement might finally follow.
Other wrestlers to appear at "Night of Legends II: Unfinished Business" with Jake "The Snake" Roberts is Kevin Nash, Buff Bagwell, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, Baby Doll, Domino and The Barbarian. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $20 for ringside seats.
