Former WWE wrestler Batista just picked up a big Marvel movie role. According to Renegade Cinema on March 14, Batista beat out Jason Momoa for the role of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy."
Drax was a human who was attacked by the evil Thanos, resulting in him, his wife and child all brutally murdered. Thanos' father, a God, knew the only way to stop his son from destroying the universe was to find someone with an unhealthy taste for revenge, so he revived Drax and placed him in a new superhuman host body, albeit without any memories, just the taste for vengeance.
This helps partially tie the story of "Guardians of the Galaxy" in with "The Avengers," since it was Thanos seen in the closing credits as the being responsible for orchestrating the attack on earth.
Batista beat out Jason Mamoa ("Conan the Barbarian"), after Mamoa held out for more money.
Batista, a former WWE World Champion, retired from the WWE to try his hand in Hollywood. He was last seen in "The Man with the Iron Fist" and will fight Vin Diesel in the upcoming movie "Riddick."
