When Darren Young came out of the closet to TMZ last week, it raced through most of the national media publications. However, there is some thought among insiders that the WWE planned out the reveal. Former WWE star Justin Credible said on Aug. 21 that he heard it was carefully thought out.
Almost immediately after announcing to TMZ that he was gay, Young began touring with the Be a Star foundation, the WWE’s anti-bullying partners. He also picked up a big tag team win on “WWE Monday Night Raw” as the Prime Time Players are suddenly wrestling as faces.
With all this happening, the idea that Darren Young coming out of the closet being planned makes a lot of sense. One thing that Justin Credible said was that it seemed strange that TMZ would show up and ask a gay wrestler what he thought would happen to a gay wrestler in the WWE. The coincidence is just too great.
Credible said that it was too convenient and that the Darren Young coming out party was planned out by the WWE to push their first openly gay active wrestler. He pointed out the mainstream press that the WWE received right before “WWE SummerSlam,” and said that it was a strong move by Young, but couldn’t have been just a coincidence.
If the WWE planned the Darren Young coming out with TMZ, does it lessen its impact at all? Chime in below in the comments and let me know.
