The news broke today that Jim Ross retired from the WWE to pursue other business ventures, but now there is WWE rumors that he did not leave on his own free will. According to PWS on Sept. 11, there is concern that the WWE actually released Jim Ross.
These rumors all seems to stem from "Summerslam" weekend when "Nature Boy" Ric Flair was part of a panel for 2K Sports for the new WWE 2K14 video game. Some claim that Flair was drunk during the panel, as he rambled on about everything from his son Reid's drug death to TNA Wrestling to the news that John Cena was a "hard drinker."
Flair was eventually pulled from the panel before it ended when a WWE employee let headquarters know that she thought Flair was drunk and was embarrassing the company. Some people thought Jim Ross was also drunk, but he later said it was his Bells Palsey acting up, causing him to stutter.
However, the WWE blamed Jim Ross for not reigning Flair back in when he went on these tangents.
Ric Flair was supposed to return to the WWE, but the company cut ties with him after the event. Some thought that was the end of it, but WWE rumors began to swell that the company was considering cutting ties with Jim Ross as well. Some even predicted he would be fired after this week's television tapings, and now he is gone from the company.
What makes this entire situation so strange is that 2K Sports was thrilled with the panel and very happy with the event. However, it was simply the WWE who was angry with how it turned out. The two people they blamed were Ric Flair and Jim Ross, both of whom are no longer associated with the WWE.
