WWE rumors: Bruno Sammartino close to WWE Hall of Fame induction

The WWE Hall of Fame ceremony for 2013 is shaping up nicely, with hardcore legend Mick Foley the first announced member and former WWF World Champion Bob Backlund coming in next. However, there might be someone even bigger coming in 2013 as WrestleZone.com reported on Jan. 28 that Bruno Sammartino might be near a deal to appear for an induction.

This is a huge deal. When looking at CM Punk's old charts on who held the title for a longer period of time that he did, only four names remained above his name. Two of those men are already in the Hall of Fame, as Pedro Morales entered in 1995 and Hulk Hogan in 2005.

The other two names were Bob Backlund and Bruno Sammartino, and if those two men could possibly enter the WWE Hall of Fame, the best title holders of the WWF era would all finally find their home in the Hall.

Sammartino held the WWF World Championship twice for a total of 4,040 days (just over 11 years). No one has held the belt longer, with Hulk Hogan a distant second place with six reigns for 2,185 days. Sammartino has never made it into the Hall of Fame because he refused induction due to a falling out with Vince McMahon over money and the direction of the WWE.

Triple H has worked hard to bring Sammartino into the WWE Hall of Fame.
