According to a July 3 report from Cageside Seats, WWE head honcho Stephanie McMahon is expected to wrestle former WWE Divas superstar Brie Bella next month at the WWE SummerSlam at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. WWE SummerSlam, which airs both on pay-per-view and the WWE Network, is set for Aug. 17. McMahon and Bella have been feuding for months, in a rivalry that stems from Daniel Bryan's poor treatment by The Authority.
Since Bella is married to Bryan in real life, the WWE has worked a scripted storyline that has McMahon tormenting the couple every chance she gets. As most WWE fans know by now, Bella was fired from the promotion after she slapped McMahon inside the ring. McMahon also publicly embarrassed Bella by having her escorted out of Money in the Bank, when she tried to corner her sister, Nikki. Of course, it was all just part of a storyline, and Bella wasn't legitimately fired or escorted out by security.
Bella is a huge star in the WWE, one of the most popular divas on the roster. There's no way the WWE would let her walk away without massive backlash from fans. All reports indicate that Bella will take on McMahon at WWE SummerSlam, and that she'll get her job back if she wins. Is it a good idea for the WWE to put this match together? Absolutely.
WWE Universe loves to see McMahon get manhandled by the athletes, as they went absolutely bonkers when Vickie Guerrero threw her in a kiddie pool filled with mud during a recent episode of WWE Monday Night Raw. The stories are obviously all fake, but the visual of Bella pinning McMahon inside the ring will still be quite pleasing to the eye. McMahon rarely competes inside the ring, but she has done so sporadically in the past.
As head honcho of a billion-dollar company, McMahon deserves props for learning all aspects of the game. She could easily play her character in The Authority while never competing inside the ring, but she goes above and beyond for the fans. Bella is obviously the better wrestler. However, McMahon has enough in the tank for a short match. In all likelihood, Bella vs. McMahon will last under two minutes, with Bryan's wife ending up earning the pin to get her job back. Elsewhere at WWE SummerSlam, the plan is to have Bray Wyatt battle Chris Jericho and John Cena take on Brock Lesnar.
