There is a lot of talk in the WWE right now about their Wednesday night television program, "WWE Main Event." According to WrestleZone on Feb. 8, the WWE is considering making the focus of the show to be on building the Intercontinental title.
This is an interesting move since in three of the more recent shows, it was the United States Champion Antonio Cesaro in action on the show. Cesaro has been building a feud with The Miz, who serves as the color commentator on "Main Event." However, it is not Cesaro and the U.S. title that the WWE is looking at showcasing on the show.
Last week, an event called the Intercontinental Cup tournament was supposed to begin. The WWE changed their minds the week of the event's start and cancelled the tournament, bringing in Cesaro to fight Ryback once again. However, word is that they are still considering having the tournament after all.
Wade Barrett, the current Intercontinental Champion, made claims that he convinced the WWE to cancel the tournament for storyline purposes, but now it looks like it might be back on and Barrett's belt will become the focus of the show. This makes sense considering that the Intercontinental is a long-time WWE prize, while the U.S. title was a carryover from the purchase of WCW.
"WWE Main Event" airs on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. EST on ION.
