When Alberto Del Rio won the World Championship from the Big Show on a weekly televised show, it seemed to make very little sense. However, according to wrestlezone.com on Jan. 17, the reason was because of Big Show's contract negotiations.
Big Show had been a dominant champion over the past few months, and just beat Sheamus in their big feud. With a big win over Sheamus, it looked like Big Show might move on into a feud with Randy Orton, the other big Smackdown star. However, Big Show's contract was also coming to an end.
According to the website, the WWE and Big Show were unable to come to a contract extension and the WWE decided to just end his title reign. The big reason was that the match with Alberto Del Rio was supposed to be Big Show's final WWE match under his contract.
With Del Rio a new fan favorite, the WWE chose to test the belt on him and the fans seemed to love it. With Del Rio over more than ever before, the WWE seems to have made a good decision. Later in the week of the title change, the WWE and Big Show finally came to an agreement on a new contract.
Big Show never missed a single event. However, since Del Rio is so over as a face champion, the WWE has decided to keep the belt on him. This might lead to his feud with Randy Orton, who is rumored to turn heal in very short time.
