The WWE "Royal Rumble" took place on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, and it was one for the ages as 30 superstars would compete to go on to main event this year's "WrestleMania." The giant 30-man battle royal wasn't the only big match on the card though as a few others made up the event, but it was The Rock taking on CM Punk for the WWE Championship that headlined it all.
Below are the full results for the 2013 "Royal Rumble," so if you haven't seen it yet and don't want to know what happened, then stop reading. These are not spoilers because the event has already gone down.
~ WWE United States Championship - Antonio Cesaro defeats The Miz: The first match of the night pitted two superstars blazing through the ranks against one another, but sadly this was only on the pre-show. Nonetheless, it was a great back and forth match that really could have gone either way. The Miz even broke out the Figure 4, but Cesaro was able to escape it and eventually hit the Neutralizer for the win.
~ Last Man Standing Match for the World Heavyweight Championship - Alberto del Rio defeats The Big Show: Del Rio is really catching on as the babyface champion, and the fans are loving him. Big Show uses a lot of power moves in this match, but it is the speed and technique of Del Rio - along with some duct tape - that keeps Show down for the 10 count.
~ WWE Tag Team Championship - Team Hell No defeats the Rhodes Scholars: This was kind of an unexpected result as this match has happened a number of times, and many thought the switch would finally happen. It was another good match though and saw a combination choke slam into the "No Lock" to get the win.
~ Royal Rumble Match - John Cena eliminate Ryback last to win the match. Some highlights are listed below.
- Dolph Ziggler was number one and faced off with a returning Chris Jericho, who drew number two. Jericho was the 25th person eliminated and Ziggler was the 27th.
- Goldust, Rey Mysterio, The Godfather, and Sin Cara all made returns in the match as well.
- Ryback cleaned house when he entered at number 30 as he eliminated five wrestlers including Randy Orton, The Miz, and Sheamus.
- Kofi Kingston again makes a dramatic re-entrance to the ring in order to avoid elimination.
~ WWE Championship Match - The Rock defeats CM Punk: It is hard to do this match justice without watching it, but it was great. The match is back and forth throughout with a GTS, sharpshooter, Rock Bottom, People's Elbow, and then an alleged appearance by The Shield. After the lights go out, The Rock was attacked and laid out. Punk rolls Rock into the ring and pins him for the win.
Vince McMahon then walks out and wants to strip Punk of the title, but Rock simply asks for a restart. McMahon restarts the match and Punk goes to work right away on Rock. As Punk goes for the GTS, Rock hits a spinebuster, People's Elbow, and scores the pin fall to win the title.
