The WWE Royal Rumble 2014 results are official for several big matches from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They included several big grudge matches such as Daniel Bryan vs. Bray Wyatt and Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show, as well as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between John Cena and Randy Orton. The results were part of the "Road to WrestleMania" with the winner of the Royal Rumble match getting to headline a title match at the WrestleMania 30 pay-per-view in early April.
According to PWTorch.com, tonight's winners included Bray Wyatt, who was able to defeat Daniel Bryan in the opening match of the pay-per-view. In the match, Wyatt's Family members, Rowan and Harper, tried to get involved, only to get thrown backstage by the ref. The match drew plenty of loud chants for Bryan and "This is awesome" as the two fought back and fourth. However, despite Bryan's all-out offensive attack on Bray, Wyatt was able to wisely seize control of the match. As Bryan went for a suicide dive on Bray near the barrier, Bray grabbed him and hit Sister Abigail to smash Bryan's head into the barrier. Another finisher in the ring gave Wyatt a victory by pin.
That match was followed up by Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show with the two behemoths finally going head-to-head in the ring. However, before the bell could even ring to start the match, Lesnar attacked Big Show and pounded on him with a steel chair. The ref finally got control of things and rang the bell, but Heyman gave another chair to Lesnar. Before he could smash Show with it, the giant delivered a KO punch on him. That took plenty out of Brock as both guys were out of it and fought in and out of the ring. The close came inside the ring when Brock was able to duck a KO punch from Show and hit the F5 on him for the pinfall win. He continued to smash a chair on Show post-match leaving the giant superstar quite damaged and Brock looking destructive as ever.
In the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match, John Cena and Randy Orton both put it all out there. They exchanged finishing moves including STF's, RKO's, Attitude Adjustment and more. They even hit each other's finishing moves to mock one another and attempt to get the big win. The ref was knocked out at one point by Orton's flailing feet when Cena had him up for an AA, but Orton grabbed the ropes. That allowed Orton to smash Cena in the head with one of his belts and attempt a pinfall. Cena and Orton continued to escape each others' moves, but it was neither man who really decided the match. The Wyatt Family came out to surround the ring after the lights went out, and eventually distracted Cena, allowing Orton to hit the RKO for the win, retaining his title. Post-match, Orton left through the crowd, while Bray and his family destroyed Cena in the ring.
Those were three big matches of the night, with the New Age Outlaws capturing the tag team titles in earlier action, as they pinned The Rhodes Brothers for the win, making it their sixth time as tag champs. The main match of the night was the 30-man Royal Rumble, which closed out the show, giving the winner a title shot at WrestleMania 30 in April of 2014. As many fans had predicted, Batista emerged victorious, after being one of the final five entrants or so. However, some of the biggest stories of the match included CM Punk lasting from #1 until one of the final four competitors, a return from Kevin Nash, Roman Reigns eliminating the other two members from Shield, and "Corporate Kane" entering the match. Punk was eventually taken out of the match by Kane, while Sheamus was eliminated by Reigns. The elimination gave Reigns a new record for overall eliminations at a Royal Rumble, and also put him against Batista for a chance to headline WrestleMania 30. The two gave it plenty of effort, each hitting massive spears, but it was Batista's night, as he managed to reverse Reigns' attempt to toss him out of the ring, sending the Shield member out instead.
The 2014 Royal Rumble was shown Sunday night at 8 p.m. EST and ran until 11 p.m. EST on pay-per-view. Next up, will be the 2014 Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in February.
