The WWE Royal Rumble 2014 predictions continue to favor "The Animal" Batista as he was once listed among possible returns for the Rumble match and is officially in. However, one other superstar who's been away from WWE for some time has "teased" being an entrant at an unlikely position for the match, while several other wrestlers recently made it known they'll be in the 30-man match and plan to win it.
A PW Torch report from Jan. 13 indicates that on the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, several more participants were announced for the upcoming Royal Rumble match at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. Rey Mysterio had a video promo prior to his match talking about how he won the Royal Rumble once before and planned to win it again this year. Also, during a backstage interview, the tag team champions noted they would be in the match. During their segment, Goldust told Cody Rhodes he planned to toss him out of the Rumble just like Cody did to him in the previous Rumble.
Others who were recently announced for the match include CM Punk, Big E Langston and Kofi Kingston. Previously announced were Xavier Woods, Fandango, The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Batista. Batista is set to make his return on next Monday night’s episode of Raw. For several weeks, Alberto Del Rio has been “trash talking” Batista after matches, vowing to eliminate him from the Royal Rumble. Predictions would seem to indicate that Batista turns the tables on Del Rio and quickly eliminates him from the match.
As for some of the potential returns to WWE at the Rumble, names such as Sheamus, Goldberg, Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Chris Jericho have been thrown around. A recent tease for a possible return came from Jericho, who has been away from WWE for several months now. Jericho's scheduled to appear at a convention being held in Pittsburgh just a day before the Rumble, which has sparked the rumors of his possible return. He recently teased fans saying he will be the “31st entrant” in this year’s Royal Rumble, which was either to throw them off, or yet another witty, sarcastic remark from Y2J.
Rumors of a Chris Jericho return for WrestleMania 30 also hit the rumor mill recently when The Winnipeg Sun ran an ad claiming he would part of a WWE Live Event scheduled for March. Reports indicate, according to Daily DDT, that the WWE has asked the media source to run a correction for their report.
Of the twelve or so competitors announced for the Rumble so far, Batista remains a strong favorite, but CM Punk would have to be another among them. Predictions for Punk seem to point to him getting eliminated by either The Shield or New Age Outlaws to potentially set up a WrestleMania 30 match with Punk and Triple H. As of this report, Brock Lesnar and Big Show have a match scheduled for the Rumble but have not been named as participants for the Royal Rumble match.
In addition to the Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show match there is also a WWE World Heavyweight championship match scheduled with champion Randy Orton defending the title against challenger John Cena. The winner presumably will take the title to WrestleMania 30, but first they may have to survive the Elimination Chamber, the next pay-per-view in line.
