There's several WWE Royal Rumble 2014 matches now official ahead of the January pro wrestling pay-per-view. The latest of the matches will feature two behemoths in the ring, as The Big Show takes on Brock Lesnar. This match joins the already-announced WWE World Heavyweight Championship battle between John Cena and Randy Orton, as well as the big stakes Royal Rumble match.
The Cageside Seats site reported on Jan. 11 that the match became official as of Friday night's televised episode of WWE SmackDown. During the program, Big Show was a special guest for The Miz on his in-ring show, MizTV, and discussed the recent run-in he had with Lesnar on Monday Night Raw. Show came to the ring to toss Lesnar around a bit, after witnessing Mark Henry have his arm snapped by Lesnar's MMA submission hold. Since "talk is cheap," Show said he'd prefer to let his actions speak loud for him and threw out an open challenge to Brock. That brought Brock's associate and manager Paul Heyman out to the stage, where he gladly accepted on Brock's behalf.
These two enormous superstars have met at least a few times before in the ring, with one of their epic confrontations ending when the ring collapsed beneath them on SmackDown. Both are former champions as well, with Show holding the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship belts for two reigns each, while Brock Lesnar has held the WWE Championship three times, before leaving for UFC where he was a one-time heavyweight champion there. Early word is that this brand new match scheduled between them will be some sort of setup for a match between Lesnar and The Undertaker over the undefeated streak at WrestleMania 30.
As noted, the Big Show vs. Brock Lesnar match joins two other big matches already announced. The Royal Rumble match itself has been known for months as it is a traditional part of the pay-per-view, but as of this report, not all of the entrants are known, let alone how many superstars will be involved. The winner of that match goes on to challenge whoever is holding the WWE Heavyweight championship belt at WrestleMania 30. That champion will be decided when John Cena challenges Randy Orton in a match for the title.
The WWE Royal Rumble 2014 edition takes place on Jan. 26, 2014 at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pro wrestling fans can watch the event by ordering it on live cable or satellite television, as well as through online stream via WWE's website.
