The WWE Royal Rumble 2013 results are in for the 30-man match which gives the winning participant a headline match at WrestleMania 29. Among this year's participants were several returning superstars including former champion Chris Jericho, and fan-favorite Goldust.
According to a PWTorch.com report on Jan. 27, Chris Jericho made his big return at the #2 spot in the Royal Rumble, starting off the match against the man who caused his leave before, Dolph Ziggler. The two remained in the match for a good bit of time too, as they were among the final five remaining superstars. Jericho ended up getting eliminated at the #25 spot by Ziggler's super kick. Ziggler would be eliminated later on by Sheamus' Brogue Kick at #27, lasting nearly 50 minutes.
Several other surprises came when Goldust arrived at the #8 spot and later on, The Godfather at the #17 spot. Godfather arrived to the ring with two women on his arm, but he was eliminated as soon as he got in the ring, thanks to a clothesline from Ziggler. Goldust lasted a bit longer after his own entry, but was eliminated by his own blood, as Cody Rhodes got the elimination. The only other major surprise in the match was Rey Mysterio returning to action, after he'd been on the shelf for weeks. Rey was the #14 entry into the match, but was eliminated thirteenth overall, with Wade Barrett sending him out.
As for this year's Royal Rumble winner. it came down to a trio of top notch superstars with Ryback, Sheamus and John Cena. Sheamus seemed to have momentum at one point, but got thrown out by Ryback. That left the hungry competitor to face John Cena with the winner getting a championship match at Mania. Ryback seemed to be in control of things, and even pounced on Cena from the ropes, bashing his head agains the mat. He was ready to eliminate Cena, but the wise competitor slipped off Ryback's shoulder, and managed to shove him out over the ropes for the win.
With that, Cena at #19 wins the 2013 Royal Rumble. He'll now get his choice of a headline match at WrestleMania 29 on April 7. Whether he'll be competing for the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight remains to be seen.
