The WWE Royal Rumble ended on Jan. 27 with John Cena winning the Rumble and The Rock beating CM Punk for the WWE Championship, leading to their eventual rematch at Wrestlemania. PWInsider.com had a lot of backstage notes from the WWE Royal Rumble.
The biggest surprise was when Chris Jericho came out as the second entrant in the Royal Rumble. He and Dolph Ziggler put on a great show, lasting until almost the end of the battle royal before being eliminated. The WWE hid Jericho for the entire event in a bus outside until he came out to enter the Royal Rumble.
There is no word yet on whether Jericho is officially back or not.
While he did not enter the Royal Rumble, former World Champion Mark Henry was at the event and backstage. There were plans for him to return, but the WWE chose not to pull the trigger yet. Henry's contract ends at Wrestlemania.
Ted DiBiase was also at the event and should return from injury soon.
The sightings of Shelton Benjamin and Carlito were correct but it was only a coincidence, as they were scheduled to wrestle an independent show this weekend. As for The Godfather, he made the drive himself and arrived this afternoon, so fans at the airport would not see him. Chris Masters, the other talent rumored for the Royal Rumble, was just there visiting the WWE crew.
