In a pre-show match on youtube.com/wwe, Antonio Cesaro defeated the Miz in a WWE United States Championship. In the match, Miz missed a double axe handle off the the top and fell on awkwardly on his right knee. It appeared that he may have injured the knee on the landing.
Alberto Del Rio defeated the Big Show in a Last Man Standing Match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Del Rio's personal ring announcer Riccardo Rodriguez helped out his com padre by taping the Big Show left to the bottom rope with duct tape. Big Show could not get up off the mat and could not answer the 10 count.
Team Hell No retained the WWE Tag Team Championships, defeating Team Rhode Scholars. Daniel Bryan got the win for Kane and himself when he forced Damian Sandow to tap to his Yes Lock.
In the 30-Man Royal Rumble match, the final 5 came down to Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus, Ryback, Randy Orton, and John Cena. John Cena and Ryback eliminated the field. Cena eliminated Ryback to win the 2013 Royal Rumble. The match featured surprise returns by Chris Jericho (who entered at #2 and was just outside final 5), Goldust (who was eliminated by his brother Cody Rhodes), and the Godfather. In another surprise, NXT prospect Bo Dallas who earned a spot in the Rumble, via tournament held during the weekend shockingly eliminated WWE Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett.

In the WWE Championship Matchin, CM Punk and the Rock battled until the Rock almost hit the People's Elbow on Punk. The lights went out, in darkness commentator Michael Cole said the Sheild was attacking Punk in the darkness. By the time the lights went back on, Rock was smashed through a table. Punk then pulled Rock into the ring and covered him to win the match. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon did not let Punk celebrate long, and hit the ring to follow up on an edict that he would strip Punk of the title if the Shield interfered WWE would strip CM Punk of the title. Rock took the mic and stopped McMahon, demanded to restart the match. McMahon made it happen. After a brief exchange, Rock successfully won the WWE Championship after a People's Elbow. Rock ends Punk's record-breaking WWE title run of 434 days.
This outcome sets up a Wrestlemania 29 WWE Championship fight between the Rock and John Cena in a rematch to last year's Wrestlemania 28.
