WWE Royal Rumble '12 results

The 25th edition of WWE Royal Rumble is officially in the books.  The event was entertaining throughout but still had some disappointment.  True feelings about the event will certainly come out after there is time to digest everything.

Here is what went down live from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

In the dark match, that happened live before the pay per view went on the air, Yoshi Tatsu pinned Heath Slater.

In the opening match on the pay per view, World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan successfully retained his Title against The Big Show and Mark Henry in a triple threat Steel Cage match.

The opening match was about what I expected it to be.

In an unannounced bonus Divas match, the team of Beth Phoenix, Natalya Neidhart and The Bella Twins beat the team of Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres, Alicia Fox and Tamina.

The Divas match was a fun surprise and certainly better than it could have been.

John Cena and Kane battled to a double count out.

Cena and Kane was about what I expected as well, including plenty of involvement from Zack Ryder.  My only surprise or complaint was that neither Kane nor Cena made it back for the Royal Rumble match, which now stops Kane Rumble match appearance record at thirteen.

In another previously unannounced match, Brodus Clay pinned Drew McIntyre.

It’s always fun to see Brodus Clay do his thing as well, but I was sure both him and McIntyre would have been included in the Rumble match as well.

WWE Champion CM Punk successfully retained his Championship against Dolph Ziggler.

Punk and Ziggler was good but certainly not the instant classic everyone was pegging it to be.  And the Rumble match itself was a lot of fun.

In the main event 30 person Royal Rumble match, Chris Jericho was victorious, last eliminating Sheamus.

Sheamus was one of the odds on favorites, alongside Jericho, Barrett and Orton, so the ending was not a huge shock.  There were a crazy amount of surprises, which were fun to see.  But it was surprising to see mainstays like John Cena and Kane not included.  I was also sure that people like Drew McIntyre, Hornswoggle and especially Brodus Clay would have been included as well.  But it was just good to go into a Rumble match without knowing far and away who the winner would be.
