WWE releases Chavo Guerrero

WWE.com announced today that Chavo Guerrero has been released.

World Wrestling Entertainment has come to terms on the release of WWE SmackDown Superstar Chavo Guerrero as of today, June 25, 2011. We wish Guerrero the best in all future endeavors.

Guerrero, the nephew of the late great Eddie Guerrero has been with WWE since 2001. While with the company, Guerrero captured the WWE Tag Team Championships with his uncle, Edddie as well being the ECW Champion and having 4 runs as WWE Cruiserweight Champion. Guerrero raised in a wrestling family from his youth, was previosuly with WCW where he won the WCW Cruiserweight and Tag Team Championships. "Chavito" had notable fueds with his uncle Eddie and Rey Mysterio.

It was reported that Guerrero took some flack backstage from WWE management for having what was believed to be an underwhelming match on last month's Over the Limit PPV with the highly-hyped new luchador, Sin Cara. This could be a major reason for Guerrero's release, but no specific reason for the release has surfaced publicly yet.
