The latest WWE Raw results for the Aug. 19, 2013 episode of the Monday night pro wrestling show are in, and there was big news announced during the program. An announcement came from the top of the program that top superstar and former WWE champion, John Cena, will be leaving WWE for several months due to injury, according to a PWTorch Aug. 19 report.
Following the Summerslam 2013 results, Cena was no longer the WWE champion after dropping the belt to Daniel Bryan (who then lost it to Randy Orton). At the start of Raw, Cena came to the ring to talk to the fans about the better man winning a clean match. Cena also brought up his nagging elbow injury, and announced that he'd be leaving WWE for several months to get surgery done. PWTorch noted in their news report:
John Cena said in the opening segment that he will be leaving WWE for "four-to-six months" for surgery on a triceps tear, which caused his left elbow to be swollen like a football. This was the same timetable WWE gave for Sheamus's shoulder injury recovery.
The other big story during Raw was the alignment of Randy Orton with the McMahon's, as the opening segment saw Daniel Bryan get into an argument with Stephanie McMahon about what Triple H did to him at Summerslam. Stephanie had security escort Bryan out of the arena after that segment, but Bryan returned later on for the final part of the show featuring the "coronation of the new champion" Randy Orton. However, Bryan suffered a beatdown at the hands of The Shield, who appear to be some sort of security team for the McMahon's. Upon, Bryan finally getting into the ring, Orton hit the RKO on Bryan and then stood tall with the McMahon's and his arms raised as champion.
Also during the program, Alberto Del Rio hurt Sin Cara during their non-title match leading to the referee stopping the bout. Del Rio proceeded to keep attacking Sin Car while a doctor tried to check on his condition, then talked about how the Latino people finally have a champion they can look up to. The post-match speech and beatdown by Del Rio prompted the return of his former ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, who came to the stage and introduced Rob Van Dam. RVD hit the ring and got the upperhand on Del Rio, only to see Alberto flee the ring before the Frogsplash.
Other winners during Raw included Bray Wyatt over R-Truth, The Shield over Big Show in a 3-on-1 handicap match, and Cody Rhodes over Damien Sandow. No major matches have been announced for the upcoming Night of Champions pay-per-view which will be held on Sept. 15, 2013, but there could be a Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton match in the works, as Bryan should get some sort of rematch after winning, and then losing, the WWE title.
