WWE Raw, the flagship program for World Wrestling Entertainment, will be bringing out the big guns over the next few weeks. Although the “Road to Wrestlemania” officially starts after the Royal Rumble pay per view, it seems like Wrestlemania season is starting early this year. And
The January 7th episode of WWE Raw will feature the long awaited return of the most electrifying sports entertainer in the history of the industry, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This will be the second year in a row that The Rock has appeared during Wrestlemania season. Last year, The Rock was involved in an angle with the WWE’s current top star, John Cena. This year The Rock is expected to capture the WWE Championship from CM Punk and defend the title against John Cena in a rematch.
In addition to the much anticipated return of The Rock, rookie sensation Ryback will get a crack at CM Punk’s championship in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs bout. This match was originally scheduled to take place at the December pay per view, but was suspended due to Punk’s knee injury. Fans should expect Punk to retain the title at the January 7th episode, though the excitement will still be high.
The following week’s episode of WWE Raw will be on January 14th, and it will be a celebratory affair. On that night, WWE Raw will celebrate its 20th year on air. The popular Monday evening program debuted in 1993 and was originally hosted by Vince McMahon, “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. Rumors are abounding over what WWE legends will be appearing on the show. However, since it is Wrestlemania season and the show is emanating from Texas, there is high expectation that the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels will make appearances.
These two mega events are only the beginning of what should be an exciting “Road to Wrestlemania.” At some point in the next few weeks, WWE fans will also see the return of Brock Lesnar and Triple H. Though not confirmed, there is speculation that these two men will wage war at Wrestlemania. The two had previously battled at Summerslam 2012 in an anti-climatic bout. And don’t rule out a possible return by Chris Jericho. The former champion and one of the all time greats always has a way of popping up this time of year.
WWE presents Raw every Monday night and can be seen on the USA Network. The three hour live television program features the superstars of World Wrestling Entertainment, including John Cena, CM Punk, Ryback and many more.
