This week's episode of WWE Monday Night Raw had a fantastic pair of promos as CM Punk and The Rock continued their feud as they head into this weekend's Royal Rumble. However, ESPN released their WWE Power Rankings on Jan. 22 and laid into the John Cena promo that ended the show.
After two solid promos that got fans excited about the upcoming WWE pay per view, John Cena came out to close out the show with a big promo meant to get fans excited about his chances of winning the Royal Rumble. The promo caused ESPN to drop Cena from the fifth spot to the 10th in the rankings.
"This man used to be money on the mic, but his promo on Raw was seriously one of the most ridiculous, time-wasting experiences I've sat through in years. Curious to know whether his writers are really this out of touch, or if Cena actually thinks he's being funny."
The promo was very bad. Cena came out and started out by talking about how Sunday is always the day of rest. He then started choosing people from the audience to talk to. He found a kid and said that kids don't play outside anymore, they just play videogames and accused the kid of always beating him at online game playing. He pointed out a woman and said she spends Sunday reliving her girls night out from Saturday. He points out a guy who Cena said spends Sunday hung over from the night before.
It all led to John Cena saying this Sunday is different because it is time for the Royal Rumble. When the promo ended, Sheamus came out and called it bizarre before everyone involved came out and everyone started fighting.
The promo caused ESPN to drop John Cena to the bottom of their weekly WWE Power Rankings, overmatched on the mic by both CM Punk and The Rock.
