Tonight, Thursday, May 29, WWE presented NXT Takeover, live on the WWE Network. The two-hour special, which aired live and commercial free on the WWE Network, highlighted the stars of WWE’s developmental territory, NXT. The match aired marquee matches of the young talent and featured up-and-comers the company is high on. This two-hour special followed in the footsteps of NXT ArRival, which aired lived days after The Network debuted. It was very reminiscent of the old Clash of Champions specials that World Championship Wrestling used to air on free TV back in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Tonight’s show aired live from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. Here are the results.

The show opened with a great video package highlighting all the current WWE talent that had come through NXT previously.

Adam Rose and The Exotic Express were outside the arena before the event started. Rose and his Rosebuds partied their way into the arena to open the show.

Adam Rose pinned Camacho after hitting the Party Foul.

They aired a video package on Sami Zayn, highlighting his star-making rivalry with Cesaro and his upcoming bout with Tyler Breeze.

NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension (Konnor & Viktor) beat El Local & Kalisto after hitting The Fall of Man on Local.

They then aired a video package on Tyler Breeze, primarily trying to get his character over for new fans.

Tyler Breeze pinned Sami Zayn after hitting The Beauty Shot. As a result, Breeze is now number one contender for the NXT Championship. This was one helluva match. It was arguably Breeze’s best match ever and once again proved how good Zayn really is inside the ring.

Rusev and Lana came to the ring to spout their usual Russian rhetoric, but were interrupted by Mojo Rawley. Rusev destroyed Rawley mid-ring and then caught him in the Accolade out on the entranceway.

They then showed an awesome video package highlighting the NXT Women’s Championship tournament and its finale, featuring Charlotte and Natalya Neidhart. This was another great package and highlighted both ladies’ rich wrestling history and their famous wrestling families.

Legendary musician and actor Kris Kristofferson was shown in the crowd. His son Jody is part of NXT and works under the name Garrett Dylan.

WWE Divas Champion Paige came to the ring to hype the NXT Women’s Championship, the Championship she had to vacate after winning the Divas Title.

Charlotte (accompanied by her father “Nature Boy” Ric Flair) beat Natalya Neidhart (accompanied by her uncle Bret “Hit Man” Hart) to win the vacant NXT Women’s Championship. Charlotte pinned Natalya after hitting her trademark summersault cutter. Post-match, Charlotte and Natalya embraced and then both Flair and Hart joined the lovefest mid-ring. This was one of the best WWE-produced women’s matches in a long time.

They then showed a great video package for the upcoming NXT Championship main event. It made Tyson Kidd the most interesting he’s ever been.

NXT Champion Adrian Neville Adrian Neville pinned Tyson Kidd after hitting The Red Arrow. Neville celebrated post-match but Kidd would accept his post-match handshake.
