WWE used to get a lot of attention to its developmental territory, but never like it does with NXT. On the evening of Thursday, May 29, 2014, NXT "Takeover" took place on the WWE Network, and it was truly a great night of wrestling action. Below is a full recap of all the events that happened at NXT "Takeover" and proof that the future of wrestling is bright.
If you have not yet seen NXT "Takeover" or don't want to know the results, stop reading now.
~ Adam Rose defeated Camacho to start the show. This was a pretty good opener and it saw Rose have most of the control before hitting the Party Foul for the win. This match alone showed so much more from Rose than what has been shown of him since he debuted on the WWE main roster.
~ The Ascension retained the NXT tag-team titles by defeating Kalisto and El Local (Ricardo Rodriguez) in a pretty good match. Ascension dominated for the majority of the match and won when Konnor hits the Fall of Man on Local for the win.
Kalisto and El Local looked great out there, but still too early for them to take down the champs.
~ Tyler Breeze defeated Sami Zayn in a number one contender's match for the NXT Championship. This was was the match of the night and one that would be tops on just about any main show card. Both men showed incredible skill and talent as they showcased their agility and strengths.
The ending came when Zayn went for a Yakuza kick, but Breeze dropped to cover his head and gave a low-blow. Breeze then hit the Beauty Shot for the pin. While Breeze is great; Zayn is simply phenomenal in the ring and will easily be a star when called up to the main roster.
~ Lana and Rusev came out to be all pro-Russian, but Mojo Rawley came out with an American flag. Rusev simply demolished Rawley before putting him in the Accolade.
~ Charlotte defeated Natalya to become the new NXT Women's Champion in a great match. This is so much better than the majority of what happens in WWE Diva's matches. Charlotte and Natalya had an incredible match and it ended with Charlotte hitting Bow Down to the Queen (somersault cutter) for the pinfall.
Bret "Hit Man" Hart and Ric Flair were in Natalya and Charlotte's respective corners. After the match, the two men hugged and played it up for the crowd.
~ Adrian Neville was able to hold onto his NXT Championship by hitting a hurricanrana and then the Red Arrow on Tyson Kidd. While Zayn and Breeze stole the show, this was a great ending to NXT "Takeover."
Both men have great talent and it was shown in their skill sets and the reversals done out of pure wrestling. Kidd will likely be called up soon, but there need to be more matches like this because it was excellent.
