The WWE Night of Champions 2013 predictions are flying in fast and furious as the next pro wrestling pay-per-view is on the way. At the upcoming event in Detroit, Mich., almost all champions will be defending their titles during the night, with a few appearing to have some time off, and at least one, not having to put the belt up for grabs. So which superstars are expected to win Sunday night?
On Sept. 9, PWTorch.com provided the updated Night of Champions matches for the card. They report indicated that neither the United States Champion, Dean Ambrose, nor Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel, will defend their titles on the show. However, that could always change once the PPV is live, as matches are sometimes made on the fly. Nonetheless, four of the championships will be up for grabs, and there's a total six matches booked, so far.
The biggest match is probably the WWE title match, where Daniel Bryan finally gets a rematch against Randy Orton. It's tough to see Bryan overcoming the odds this quickly and taking the belt back, even though a lot of fans want to see it. Expect Orton to reign supreme again, whether it be thanks to outside help from Triple H, or maybe even a Big Show heel turn.
There's also Rob Van Dam vying for Alberto Del Rio's World Championship. It wouldn't be all that surprising if RVD won the belt, only to drop it to Damien Sandow on the PPV, or during the next week (on Raw or SmackDown). Remember, Sandow is the Money in the Bank winner and has yet to cash in his contract for a title shot. Also, RVD is back under a limited contract with WWE.
In a non-title match, CM Punk is in a 2-on-1 handicap match as he faces Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel. The IC belt is not on the line, but it's an elimination match. The most likely outcome here is that Punk will eliminate Axel leaving it a one-on-one against Heyman. Once that happens, it won't be surprising if Brock Lesnar shows up to spoil Punk's party, again.
A.J. Lee has held the Divas Championship for a reign of 86 days and counting, having won the belt from Kaitlyn back on June 16 at Payback. She recently had that epic promo where she called out most of the other divas on the roster for being part of the "Total Divas" reality show on E! She'll now face three of them: Brie Bella, Natalya and Naomi. While most fans want A.J. to hold onto the belt until maybe someone like Paige arrives from the NXT roster, it seems as if maybe WWE could move the title over to Naomi so she can associate the strap with that "Total Divas" show.
There's also going to be a "Tag Team Turmoil" match on the live stream free kickoff show online ahead of the main pay-per-view. It will feature five different tag teams vying for the shot to be new #1 contenders for the tag team belts. They are 3MB, The Usos, Prime Time Players, Real Americans and Tons of Funk. It seems likely that maybe Darren Young and Titus O'Neil could win this one, based on Young's recent publicity. However, it's always tough to tell with WWE, and another option could be for The Usos to win. The winners will face Shield during the main PPV and probably lose, although seeing Prime Time Players score the belts could be possible.
WWE's special kickoff show starts online at about 7:30 p.m. EST, while the WWE Night of Champions 2013 pay-per-view goes live on the internet or cable/satellite TV provider sat 8 p.m. EST.
