WWE news: What The Shield's breakup means for the WWE

The biggest surprise on this week’s “WWE Monday Night Raw” looked to be Batista telling Triple H that he quit and then walking out. However, a much bigger shock came at the end of the show on Monday night. As The Shield stood ready to face off against Triple H and Randy Orton, Seth Rollins turned on his partners and left both Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose lying in the ring.

It is ironic that the WWE just released a DVD about the greatest factions in wrestling history and then immediately split up two of the factions covered in the DVD. The show started off with Batista quitting because he was tired of the WWE lying to him and breaking promises. In reality, Batista was planning to leave now anyway to start promoting his next movie, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” That ended Evolution.

While that was expected, no one could have predicted what was about to happen to The Shield. When the breakup of The Shield was rumored, there were two lines of thought. The first was that the person most likely to turn heel was Dean Ambrose. The second was that Ambrose and Seth Rollins would turn heel and break off from Roman Reigns. When Rollins attacked Reigns and Ambrose, it was just a complete surprise.

With The Shield now officially broke up and Seth Rollins aligning himself with Triple H, the real test for the three men begins. As a faction, they were the most dominant and exciting wrestlers in the WWE. Now, broke up, they have to prove they can do it on their own. Roman Reigns is earmarked for a future world title. Ambrose has what it takes to be a great crazed bad guy. Rollins is the big question, the most talented wrestler in the group, but the one that might struggle to find his niche.

What The Shield breakup brings next in the WWE storytelling is anyone’s guess. While Roman Reigns is who the WWE wants as a main event star, the fate of Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins will be determined over the next two months. Until then, what is known is that the greatest faction in the WWE in years has just ended and their reign of dominance will be missed.
