WWE news: The Usos to defend tag team championships on SummerSlam kick-off show

According to an Aug. 7 report from, The Usos have been penciled in to defend their tag team championship belts at WWE SummerSlam. The Usos are set to compete in a Fatal 4-Way match against three other high-level tag teams, in a bout that is expected to be part of the WWE SummerSlam kick-off show on the WWE Network. WWE SummerSlam is set for Aug. 17 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Ryback and Curtis Axel will be taking part in the Fatal 4-Way tag team match, as will the tag team of Luke Harper and Erick Rowan of The Wyatt Family. Besides The Usos, the tag team of Goldust and Stardust will be in the match. With Rybaxel, The Usos, The Brotherhood and The Wyatt Family all part of the match, this is one of the greatest Fatal 4-Way tag team bouts in WWE SummerSlam history. The only thing odd about the match is that the WWE didn't infuse any new blood into it, with a fresh-faced tag team.

There was some initial thought that the WWE would add in the newly-formed tag team of Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E, but they are not expected to be part of the bout. Of course, there's always the chance that Woods, Kingston and Big E could interfere in the match, and somehow emerge as the new tag team champs. In all likelihood, The Usos will retain their belts.

The WWE made a nice choice by selecting a Fatal 4-Way to kick off the hotly-anticipated SummerSlam pay-per-view spectacular. Having four tag teams involved in the match allows for more athletes to get some much-needed air time, so it's a bonus for all squads in the WWE's tag team division. Fight fans were starting to sour on The Usos vs. The Wyatt Family, because it had been done several times over the past few months.

The Usos and The Wyatt Family have great chemistry inside the ring, but WWE fans wanted to see something new. That said, it makes sense for a Fatal 4-Way to go down. Will Rybaxel reign supreme? That's unlikely, but they'll probably do a good job helping the other superstars get over with the crowd. As for The Brotherhood, they probably have the best chance to succeed at SummerSlam. Stardust and Goldust have gotten over in a big way with WWE Universe, so not many would be surprised to see them get a push in the months ahead, beginning with SummerSlam.
