The WWE named their 2013 Rookie of the Year and the award went to all three members of The Shield. According to WWE.com on Dec. 2, The Shield made the biggest impact over the last year with some of the best matches on pay-per-views as well as jaw dropping moments on “WWE Monday Night Raw.”
The Shield made their big debut in November 2013 when they came into the ring and attacked Ryback and put him through the ringside table to help CM Punk win a three-way WWE Championship match. Despite them claiming they were just there to break the system, it was revealed that they were working for Paul Heyman. After breaking with him, they went their own way before starting to do the dirty work of The Authority.
The other competitors included both Fandango, who made his debut as the dancing villain, Curtis Axel, the third generation “Paul Heyman Guy” and Big E. Langston, the bodyguard for Dolph Ziggler. Also nominated was The Wyatt Family, the newest additions to the WWE.
Of these men, Curtis Axel and Big E Langston have both won Intercontinental titles while Fandango and the Wyatt Family have yet to win a title. On the other hand, The Shield held the WWE tag team titles longer than all but four teams since the titles were unified and Dean Ambrose for over six months now.
With The Shield as the WWE Rookie of the Year, it is only a matter of time before they finally split up and fans will see if they have longevity on their own.
