WWE news: The Rock to star in DC Comics movie ‘Shazam’

Former WWE world champion Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said a couple of months back that he would be starring in an upcoming DC Comics movie. He hinted that he would play a character that was as strong as Superman, but that was as far as it went. Ideas drifted that he could play the John Stewart version of Green Lantern, but an older rumor turned out to be the true one. MTV reported on Tuesday that The Rock will appear in the DC Comics movie “Shazam.”

Other than Green Lantern, The Rock has also hinted that he would love to play Lobo, but if WWE fans head back seven long years, The Rock said that one of his favorite characters that he would love to play is Black Adam. For those who don’t read comics, Black Adam is a villain and the main nemesis for Captain Marvel, the character who received his powers from the wizard Shazam.

Black Adam, while a villain, is also an anti-hero on occasion and is fiercely protective of the people of his homelands. He has the same powers as Captain Marvel, which is almost unlimited. When it comes to being as strong as Superman, while the Man of Steel might be stronger, Black Adam and Captain Marvel received their powers through magic, which is one of Superman’s major weaknesses, much like kryptonite.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been attached to a “Shazam” movie since 2007 but he had not chosen whether to play Captain Marvel, the hero, or Black Adam, the villain. While Johnson has almost exclusively played heroes throughout his acting career, his time in the WWE proves he can play a great villain as well. Now that a “Shazam” movie has been brought back as one of the upcoming DC Comics movies coming over the next five years, The Rock is still attached. Now, it will be time to see which role he takes.
