There has been a ton of rumors about “Stone Cold” Steve Austin returning to the WWE for one final match. The rumors usually happen every year and focus on who Austin could fight at a “Wrestlemania” event, with last year’s biggest rumor being a match with CM Punk. Now, the rumors are starting again and this time it is about “Wrestlemania 32” in Texas. According to PWS on Monday, Steve Austin addressed the rumors and said that it could be a very special moment.
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin did show up at “Wrestlemania 30” in a huge surprise moment where he joined Hulk Hogan and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the ring to open the show. However, Austin hasn’t wrestled a match in 2003 when he lost to The Rock. After that, the WWE wrote Austin out of storylines with an on-screen firing due to medical reasons. The real reason was because of Austin’s degenerating neck conditions.
Out of the sport competitively for 11 years now, it seems unlikely that Austin would return for anything less than a very special appearance and a high quality opponent. At the age of 49, it is also pretty late to think about returning to wrestling. Jim Ross blogged recently that the odds on Austin returning were greater than any regular wrestling fan could imagine.
However, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin has made it clear that you should never say never. He mentioned that “Wrestlemania 31” is in California and that is doable but unlikely. However, when he also said that “Wrestlemania 32” was in his home state, he said it could be special but he wasn’t pushing for anything. But, you never know with the WWE. The only real question is who would it take for Austin to return to the WWE to face?
