WWE news: Ryback injured, but not leaving promotion

According to an Aug. 27 report from Cageside Seats, WWE color commentator Michael Cole announced on this week's episode of Main Event that Ryback will be sidelined for an extended period of time due to an injury. Cole did not reveal what it is that ails Ryback, but he says the big man will be out for at least a few weeks. No one knows for sure is Ryback is legitimately injured, or if its all part of an elaborate storyline.

News of Ryback's injury comes on the heels of a cryptic tweet he posted earlier this week, where he hinted that he'll be leaving the WWE. Ryback, 32, deleted the tweet just a few hours posting it, but it had already gone viral by the time he removed it. Once something gets posted on Twitter, it's never completely erased.

Ryback, real name Ryan Reeves, is currently one of the most popular heels on the WWE roster, and he regularly appears in televised spots as Curtis Axel's tag team partner. For what it's worth, Axel has worked in recent weeks as a singles player. Ryback and Axel were working together as the popular Rybaxel tag team for the past several months, and it appeared for a while that they were close to receiving a push into title contention.

However, it wasn't meant to be. Lately, the Usos have been feuding with the tag team of Goldust and Stardust, so it seemed to WWE Universe that Ryback and Axel weren't getting a push. Could this be reason why Ryback is frustrated with the WWE and threatened to leave? That's certainly a possibility, but no one knows for sure.

It's always difficult when a pro wrestler puts in a lot of time and effort, without getting the recognition or opportunity to receive a title shot. Ryback quickly rose the NXT ranks in 2010, before becoming a household name with crisp performances inside the WWE ring in 2011. For the past two years, Ryback has mostly been utilized in tag team matches.
