WWE news: Rusev to battle Jack Swagger in Flag match at SummerSlam

According to a July 23 post from Bleacher Report, a Flag match between Rusev and Jack Swagger is in the works for next month's SummerSlam pay-per-view spectacular. The Flag match is basically the pro wrestling version of capture the flag, as Rusev will be looking to grab Swagger's American flag and raise it over his head for the victory. Swagger will try to do the same with Rusev's Russian flag. Whoever can capture their opponent's flag will be declared the winner.

Rusev and Swagger have been feuding for months, most recently at WWE Battleground in Tampa. Rusev defeated Swagger via count-out that night, but the American gave him a tough fight and possibly his toughest test to date. Rusev and Swagger are both huge men, but they are quick and have legitimate wrestling skills. Their match at WWE Battleground lasted just under 10 minutes, and it was filled with exciting moments and high-level techniques.

Since Rusev and Swagger have such great chemistry inside the ring, the WWE was quick to book the rematch for SummerSlam, which goes down next month at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Rusev's valet, Lana, also cuts excellent promos with Swagger's manager, Zeb Colter. It's a winning combination that draws real heat from WWE Universe, so the WWE is milking this feud for all its worth.

How will the Rusev vs. Swagger match play out? In all likelihood, it's going to be a squash match. Rusev is being built up as the WWE's top heel besides Brock Lesnar, so he'll probably be scripted to beat Swagger in dominating fashion. However, Swagger could earn himself a future push with a crisp performance against Rusev. It's not likely that Rusev will lose this early in his WWE career, since he has gotten over as one of the promotion's top villains.

At this point, the only babyface characters who could beat Rusev are Roman Reigns and John Cena. Even though Rusev vs. Swagger is a bit predictable, SummerSlam features several more must-see matches. The card includes Reigns vs. Randy Orton, Chris Jericho against Bray Wyatt and Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon. Elsewhere at SummerSlam, Cena takes on Brock Lesnar. The Cena vs. Lesnar match is a trilogy fight, and its expected to headline the event.
