WWE news: Roman Reigns talks about the original plans for his debut

It is old news that The Shield was thrown together at the last minute and was a change from how the three men were supposed to debut in the WWE. While the original Dean Ambrose plans were well known, PWS reported on March 14 that Roman Reigns finally talked about the original plans for their debut.

Dean Ambrose was originally supposed to start a major feud with Mick Foley and they started trading insults on social networks. However, Mick Foley failed a physical and doctors told him to never wrestle again. Foley said that was the best thing that could have ever happened to Dean Ambrose.

When the Ambrose feud fell through, he kind of drifted through the NXT ranks while Seth Rollins became the first ever NXT Champion. As for Roman Reigns, he said that he finished his football career and his dad helped get him a try out at the developmental center.

So, the three were put together to storm into the WWE as The Shield. According to Reigns, they were supposed to come to the ring with actual riot gear, including giant shields with “The Shield” wrote on them. Luckily, Vince McMahon saw the shields and asked if they were “wussies.” They said no, so he said to leave the shields behind and the rest is history.
