Rowdy Roddy Piper is following the footsteps of Mick Foley and having his own one-man shows across the world. He was in Ireland recently and had some interesting stories to tell the 200 fans in attendance. According to PWS on Monday, Piper said that the reason Vince McMahon doesn’t like him is because Piper insulted him once.
According to Piper, the incident started when McMahon actually insulted Piper. Never known as a man to back down from anyone, Piper retaliated and hit McMahon below the belt with some of his comments. Piper brought up the fact that McMahon was a failure when it came to promoting concerts, bodybuilding and football. Piper then said that the only thing McMahon ever succeeded at was the wrestling business and that was because his dad gave it to him.
That is a little bit misinformed, but obviously Piper and McMahon were at odds when Piper said it. The fact is that Vince McMahon bought the WWE from his father and his partners. The deal stipulated that, if McMahon missed one payment, the group would regain control of the WWE and keep all the money paid to them to that date. McMahon gambled everything on the first “Wrestlemania,” which was a huge success and made McMahon an eventual billionaire.
Of course, Rowdy Roddy Piper played a large role in that first “Wrestlemania” as the biggest villain in the company. However, when it comes to egos as large as Piper and Vince McMahon, many of those things might get overlooked. Maybe Piper was embellishing for his show, but with his on and off relationship with the WWE, this explanation makes as much sense as any.
