Ricardo Rodriguez has spent most of his WWE career as the ring announcer for Alberto Del Rio. With the two split up, WrestleView reported on Oct. 26 that the WWE career of Rodriguez is coming to an end for now. Rodriguez is being written off of television and will report to NXT to become a regular performer there.
Over his time with Alberto Del Rio, Rodriguez became a fan favorite despite the two of them serving most of the time as villains. Fans would cheer and quote Rodriguez while booing Del Rio. When Rodriguez was attacked last year, Del Rio turned face and came to his rescue.
The face turn for Del Rio was a failure, as fans didn’t really buy into his good guy persona, but they continued to cheer for Rodriguez and that helped them side with Del Rio through a few of his feuds. Del Rio finally went heal again and then topped it off by attacking Rodriguez and trying to break his arm.
Rodriguez returned as the new manager of Rob Van Dam and led RVD into a feud with Del Rio for the world championship. Van Dam won the first match by disqualification and then lost the rematch and has since left the WWE. Since that time, Rodriguez actually pinned Del Rio in a match when Del Rio was distracted by Vickie Guerrero.
Del Rio followed up by attacking Rodriguez and trying to break his arm again. This should be a way to write him off of TV. Rodriguez tweeted shortly after that, saying he was heading to NXT to learn how to be a wrestler and that looks like what the WWE plans to do with him.
