The WWE is still using Hunico under the mask as Sin Cara and has a “Scooby Doo” DVD coming out soon that uses the character of Sin Cara in it. However, according PWS on March 7, the original Sin Cara still believes he owns the rights to the character and will continue to use it.
This could end up leading to a court battle as the WWE has allegedly already sent out a demand for AAA to stop using the character. When Sin Cara first appeared, he was a shadowy figure and the WWE was said to be the reason.
Sin Cara used to use the name Mistico in Mexico, but that character was owned by his old promotion and they gave the character to another wrestler when he signed with the WWE. Sin Cara claims that he brought the mask, costume design and character to the WWE and that means he owns the rights to it.
According to Sin Cara, his attorney is working on it right now and he feels that when his 90 day no-compete clause ends, he will be able to use the Sin Cara name in AAA, which will be airing in the United States on the El Rey Network, a Latino influenced, English language television network owned by Robert Rodriguez.
