WWE news: Nikki Bella to make heel turn and align with Stephanie McMahon

According to a July 26 report from Cageside Seats, WWE's creative team is seriously thinking about scripting Nikki Bella to make a heel turn by stabbing her sister, Brie Bella, in the back in the lead-up to next month's SummerSlam pay-per-view spectacular. The actual heel turn could even happen during Brie Bella's SummerSlam match against Stephanie McMahon, as it doesn't necessarily need to happen beforehand. At present time, the plan is to have Nikki Bella turn on Brie and align herself with McMahon and The Authority.

Why would the WWE do such a thing? The Bella Twins are two of the WWE's most popular divas superstars, so having Nikki Bella make a heel turn could actually elevate her status in the promotion. The current feud between McMahon and the Bella Twins has gotten over in a big way with WWE Universe, so the promotion is milking the storyline for all its worth. Adding the wrinkle of the twins turning on each other could extend the angle for another several months.

Additionally, the WWE might consider forming a tag-team between Nikki Bella and Paige, another WWE Divas star who recently turned heel. Paige, the former NXT champ, made a heel turn during a recent episode of Monday Night Raw, by smashing AJ Lee's face into the mat. Paige and Bella would likely continue to be singles stars, but the occasional tag-team pairing could work for future episodes of Monday Night Raw.

If Bella makes a heel turn, it might make sense to have her team up with Paige to battle the newly formed babyface tag-team of Summer Rae and Layla, who took on the Slayers moniker. Time will tell how the situation plays out, but its looking more and more likely by the day that Bella will be making a heel turn in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam. It doesn't appear that Nikki and Brie will be enemies for long, since they are twins in real life.

However, the WWE could have them feud with each other for several months, until the inevitable reunion as a tag-team occurs. Fan reaction from WWE Universe will likely determine how the WWE scripts the heel turn and subsequent storylines to go down. SummerSlam, which goes down next month at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, also features a headliner of John Cena against Brock Lesnar.
