WWE news: John Cena responds to Brock Lesnar's challenge on Monday Night Raw

According to a July 28 report from Cageside Seats, Brock Lesnar will not be on hand tonight in Houston for the live taping of WWE Monday Night Raw. Lesnar, 37, recently returned to the WWE fold to feud with John Cena in the lead-up to next month's SummerSlam pay-per-view spectacular, so the WWE had been using Monday Night Raw and Smackdown events as a vehicle to hype the drama heading into show.

Lesnar collides with Cena in the SummerSlam main event, in a bout that will see the WWE Heavyweight Championship get put on the line. That said, the WWE has been scripting Lesnar and Cena to feud with each other over the past few weeks, in an effort to get fans excited about next month's pay-per-view event. Lesnar and Cena battled each other twice before, and the score is currently tied at one-all.

Next month's SummerSlam pay-per-view is a rubber match that will determine who goes down in history as the all-time winner of the trilogy. Will Cena, the 15-time WWE champ, beat Lesnar for a second time? Probably not. Currently the plan is for Cena to drop the belt to Lesnar at SummerSlam. Lesnar is then expected to have a short title run, before losing the belt to Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 31. Where Daniel Bryan fits into the title picture is anyone's guess, but he's still rehabbing from a neck injury.

Bryan may be out for up to a year, so the WWE doesn't need to worry about his comeback just yet. Tonight on WWE Monday Night Raw, Cena is expected to address the crowd and discuss his feud with Lesnar. The plan is to have Lesnar return to action next week and the week after, which would give the WWE plenty of time to hype the SummerSlam main event to the fullest. Luckily, Lesnar isn't injured.

He's good to go. It just appears that the WWE wanted to give him some extra rest, so that's why he won't be appearing tonight on WWE Monday Night Raw. Elsewhere on the episode, Paige is expected to continue her feud with AJ Lee and WWE head honcho Stephanie McMahon is expected to address Brie Bella. Tonight's episode of WWE Monday Night Raw also features cameo appearances from Cesaro and Bo Dallas.
