Jake “The Snake” Roberts has been clean of drugs for about a year now and questions have risen about what he wants to do next. According to PWS on Dec. 13, Roberts said that he would love to teach younger wrestlers the art of ring psychology.
Roberts said that it is something he could do, and then emphasized that he should be doing it. He said that his footwork isn’t as fast as it used to be, so he should be using this time to teach wrestlers how to use ring psychology and tell stories in the ring. He also said that he would love to teach this for the WWE, where he said he could help their talent.
In his heyday, Roberts was considered one of the best in the business when it came to cutting promos and using psychology in and out of the ring to tell stories and build feuds. Whether he was battling someone who was also a great ring psychologist, such as Ravishing Rick Rude, or was in a feud with someone who was quite green in most areas of wrestling, such as The Ultimate Warrior, a Jake Roberts feud was always entertaining and intelligent.
That was all because Roberts was a second generation star who learned everything he could from the territory scene and perfected his act throughout the years. There was no one better, and having a mind like Jake “The Snake” Roberts teaching young WWE stars psychology is something that could only help the company.
