TMZ.com reports today that controversial WWE superstar Jack Swagger was arrested last night following the Smackdown tapings in Biloxi, Missisippi under charges of DUI, possession of marijuana, and speeding.
Swagger was reportedly driving erratically through traffic before being pulled over and deemed by the responding officer to be under the influence.
TMZ reports that WWE’s response to the incident is simply to note that “Mr. Swagger is responsible for his own personal actions.”
Jack Swagger, who has also come under fire this week for his current “We The People” gimmick, is in line to face World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio for the title at Wrestlemania 29 on April 7th. While the charges he faces are all misdemeanors and unlikely to have an impact on his ability to appear at the event, there is little doubt that this incident will cause problems with his status with WWE.
Being busted with pot is nothing new amongst members of the WWE locker room. Rob Van Dam and Sabu were arrested in July of 2006 on possession charges while current WWE superstar Randy Orton was suspended 60 days last year for violating WWE’s wellness program by testing positive for marijuana. What consequences there will be for Swagger remain to be seen, but considering he is not half as popular as these previously mentioned superstars, chances are this may be the beginning of the end for Jack Swagger’s career with World Wrestling Entertainment.
