Fans of independent wrestling got excited when indie superstar Pac signed a developmental contract with the WWE. He has started wrestling on the NXT brand under the name Adrian Neville and the NXT tapings that took place on Jan. 10 prove the WWE have big plans for the superstar.
Recently, indie stars have been making a big name for themselves in the WWE. CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Antonio Cesaro all came to the WWE after huge indie careers and now all three men hold major titles. Two of the members of The Shield are also former indie stars, and rumors claim that Triple H is interested in signing a large number of these independent stars.
Pac was one of these new signings. Pac is a very exciting high flyer who wrestled in Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) and Dragon Gate. Punk and Bryan both came from Ring of Honor and Dean Ambrose of The Shield last wrestled in Dragon Gate.
On the new NXT tapings, Adrian Neville was introduced a tag team wrestler, teaming with another developmental talent, young British wrestler named Oliver Grey. The two tore through the tournament to determine the first ever NXT tag team champions, and will wrestle at the next TV tapings in the tournament finals.
They beat WWE Monday Night Raw stars, 3MB (Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre) when Neville hit a corkscrew shooting star press for the pin of McIntyre. In the second round, they beat Kassius Ohno and Leo Kruger to make it to the finals. Neville got the pin again, this time pinning Ohno, who was the former tag team partner of Antonio Cesaro in Ring of Honor.
Whether or not Neville becomes a tag team champion right out of the blocks or not is still to be determined. However, it is clear that WWE likes what they see in the man formerly known as Pac, and he is off to a very hot start in his new home.
