According to an Aug. 11 report from WrestlingInc.com, Hulk Hogan's birthday will be celebrated during the Aug. 11 taping of WWE Monday Night Raw in Portland. Hogan, the most popular character in WWE history, will be on hand for the festivities. He turns 61 years old on Aug. 11. Despite his advanced age, Hogan says he wants to work one more match under the WWE banner.
Hogan has been targeting John Cena as a potential opponent for his final match, but no word yet from the WWE if the bout will ever happen. Since Hogan is well past his athletic prime, a match with Cena may be best left to fantasy. An actual match between Cena and Hogan would certainly not live up to the hype, so the WWE may want to avoid it.
Even if Hogan never works another match under the WWE banner, he still goes down in history as the most well-liked character in pro wrestling history. That said, the WWE loves trotting him out to help sell subscriptions of the WWE Network, and to engage some of the promotion's old school fans. Hogan might not have much left in the tank when it comes to active wrestling competition, but he's still a superstar on the mic.
Hogan knows how to work a crowd, even at the tender age of 61. What will he say on the air tonight, when WWE Monday Night Raw goes live at 8 p.m. on the USA Network? Chances are, the WWE will use his cameo to drum up support both for the WWE Network and the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view event. Hogan isn't expected to be doing any commentary work at SummerSlam, but he will likely be used to hype the event.
To help the WWE celebrate Hogan's historic 61st birthday, dozens of current and former WWE superstars will be on hand for Monday Night Raw in Portland. Kevin Nash, who wrestled under the Diesel moniker, confirmed that he'll be at the WWE Monday Night Raw taping slated for Aug. 11. Ric Flair is also rumored to be appearing, along with Jimmy Hart and Paul Orndorff.
Hogan is one of the most beloved characters in WWE history because he headlined the first ever Wrestlemania pay-per-view spectacular, where he single-handedly put the promotion in the mainstream. At Wrestlemania 3, Hogan shook the world by slamming Andre the Giant, and he had plenty of other memorable moments in his storied wrestling career. WWE and WWF fans also fondly remember him for his feud with The Ultimate Warrior.
Elsewhere on WWE Monday Night Raw, Cena is expected to be on hand to confront Brock Lesnar. Since this week's episode of WWE Monday Night Raw is the go home show for SummerSlam, it's a must watch for WWE fans. Besides Hogan's birthday celebration and the clash between Cena and Lesnar, WWE fans will be treated to a clash between Stephanie McMahon and Brie Bella. Dean Ambrose is also expected to confront Seth Rollins.
