Bruno Sammartino celebrated his 78th birthday yesterday, and he was invited to “WWE Monday Night Raw” to greet the fans. According to PWS on Oct. 8, it was not supposed to be seen on TV, but he got such a great reaction that they showed a replay of it after the commercial.
WWE COO Triple H has been doing a lot of work to reach out to former WWE stars who have broken their ties with the WWE to try to mend fences. The two biggest stories were bringing The Ultimate Warrior and Bruno Sammartino back into the WWE family.
When Triple H arrived in Pittsburgh yesterday, he called and invited Sammartino to “Raw” so they could honor him on his birthday. Since Sammartino lives in the area, he agreed, and Jerry “The King” Lawler called him out to the stage so the crowd could sing “Happy Birthday” to the WWE legend.
It ended up being a huge hit.
Bruno Sammartino hails from Pittsburgh and remains a legend in the area. He is a former two-time WWE Champion and holds the record for both the longest single-championship reign (2,803 days) as well as the longest combined championship reigns (4,040 days) in WWE history.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 6, 2013 by his longtime friend, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
