When CM Punk left the WWE, it was the night after the “Royal Rumble” where Batista won the main event to earn a spot in the “Wrestlemania 30” main event. One of the biggest WWE rumors was that Punk was quitting the WWE because the company was pushing a returning Batista over the young stars who had worked full time for years. According to Caged Seats on Friday, Batista spoke about CM Punk leaving and predicted that he would return to the WWE.
In the interview, Batista said that he doesn’t know the exact reason that CM Punk quit the WWE. It was clear, ever since the infamous pipe bomb promo, that CM Punk was not really happy in the WWE. However, that promo led to Punk beating John Cena for the WWE Championship and then holding it longer than anyone since Hulk Hogan in the 80s. Despite this, CM Punk never main-evented a Wrestlemania event.
With CM Punk’s contract set to expire in July, he might have realized that his chance to main event Wrestlemania ended with Batista’s return. He quit the next day and walked out on the company with six months remaining on his deal. His contract finally ended last week, and in his first interview where he talked about the WWE, CM Punk made interesting comments about concussions and staph infections. That tied in with another WWE rumor that Punk left due to a beaten up body.
According to Batista, he feels that CM Punk will return to the WWE one day. He said that there is no way that Punk would wrestle for a lesser wrestling promotion after his success in the WWE. Batista said Japan was a possibility, but that he feels that CM Punk belongs in the WWE and it would be crazy if CM Punk never returned to a WWE ring. While CM Punk claimed he was never ever coming back, the comment seemed to be a humorous quote, so never say never.
