WWE news: AJ Lee's injury status to be revealed on Monday Night Raw in Austin

According to an Aug. 4 report from GiveMeSport.com, the updated status on WWE Divas champ, AJ Lee, will be revealed on Monday Night Raw in Austin. During the episode, an announcement is expected to be made regarding Lee's SummerSlam match with Paige, which is slated for Aug. 17 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Lee was expected to put her WWE Divas title on the line at SummerSlam, but the bout is in question due to a neck injury suffered by the champ.

Unfortunately, she was injured during a recent episode of Smackdown, filmed last week in Texas. Lee was diagnosed with a whiplash injury after being thrown off the ring following a victory over Rosa Mendes, so her status for SummerSlam immediately became a question mark. With just two weeks to go before the SummerSlam pay-per-view spectacular, it still remains to be seen if Lee will be able to compete against Paige at the big show.

The good news is that Lee appeared at a WWE house show in Lubbock last night, during a non-televised match against Paige and Natalya. However, Lee missed most of the bout due to an injury that was just part of the script. She left the match just a minute into it, only to emerge 10 minutes later to defeat Paige with her signature Black Widow finisher.

Should WWE fans be worried about Lee's future? In the short-term, her whiplash injury could affect her. Long-term, she should be fine. The WWE obviously is taking steps to handle her with love and care in the lead-up to SummerSlam, to make her she doesn't get injured even worse. On a positive note, Lee isn't expected to face any long-term side effects from her whiplash injury.

She should be cleared for her SummerSlam bout with Paige, but the WWE will not confirm or deny that until tonight on WWE Monday Night Raw. Lee hasn't made any official announcement on the status of her injury, and the WWE is also keeping the news under wraps until tonight on Monday Night Raw. If Lee isn't good to go for the event, luckily they have a legitimate No. 1 contender in Paige, who could hold onto the belt until she's ready to compete again.

WWE Monday Night Raw airs on Aug. 4 at 8 p.m. on the USA Network. WWE Universe will learn this evening what the near future holds for Lee. That said, tonight's episode is a must-watch. Lee is easily the most popular divas superstar on the WWE roster, so fans will be watching intently to learn what's in store for her.
