According to a June 20 post from Bleacher Report, the WWE's upcoming Money in the Bank special event will be chock full of ladder matches, including one for the vacant WWE Heavyweight Championship. The other ladder match will be for a WWE World Heavyweight Championship contract.
So far it has already been announced that the ladder match for the WWE Heavyweight Championship will feature seven WWE superstars, including Alberto Del Rio, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, John Cena and Cesaro. Whoever wins will walk away as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The belt was recently vacated by Daniel Bryan, since he's still rehabbing from a neck injury.
WWE head honcho Stephanie McMahon thinks its best for business to have a champion that is active and not sitting helplessly on the sidelines, so she stripped Bryan of his belt and decided to put it on the line for the first time ever at a Money in the Bank event. Either Del Rio, Orton, Sheamus, Wyatt, Reigns, Cena or Cesaro will walk away as the new champion.
The other ladder match is just as intriguing, as the winner walks away with a WWE World Heavyweight Championship contract that can be cashed in at any time. So far the only man announced for that match is Seth Rollins, but the WWE will likely announce more contestants for it this week on Monday Night Raw. The winner of this match will receive a briefcase with a contract that entitles him to a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at any date, place, and time of his choosing within the next year.
Rollins is expected to receive a major push as a singles star in the WWE ranks, ever since The Shield split up. Rollins turned heel by smashing Reigns in the back with a steel chair, and the WWE is very high on him at this point. WWE Universe can absolutely expect to see Rollins win his match at Money in the Bank.
Elsewhere at Money in the Bank, The Usos put their tag-team championship belts on the line against Erick Rowan and Luke Harper of The Wyatt Family. This one is shaping up to be a bit of a squash match, as Jimmy and Jey Uso are far more popular than Rowan and Harper. There's absolutely no way the WWE scripts them to lose their belts at Money in the Bank.
Besides the two ladder matches and the tag-team championship bout, no other official announcements have been made for Money in the Bank. However, it's expected that WWE Divas champ Paige will put her title on the line against Naomi, and that Bad News Barrett will be making a cameo in the ladder match for the championship contract.
Money in the Bank, which airs on the WWE Network and also on pay-per-view, goes down June 29 at TD Garden in Boston. While Money in the Bank is not traditionally one of the WWE's major pay-per-view cards, this year's card should push it over the top as a must-see event.
