According to a May 5 report from Cageside Seats, new WWE Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett successfully defended his belt against Big E during the WWE Monday Night Raw episode that was filmed last night at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York. Barrett vs Big E was a rematch from this weekend's Extreme Rules special event, and "Bad News" reigned supreme in both bouts.
Last night's episode of WWE Monday Night Raw opened with a 20-man battle royale to determine who would be the new United States Champion of the WWE. Dean Ambrose, Ryback, Curtis Axel, Sheamus, Jack Swagger and Santino were the final six men left standing, but the Irish striker emerged victorious after 15 minutes of frenzied action. Sheamus capped off the win by tossing Dean Ambrose over the top rope.
Later in the evening, Rob Van Dam bounced back from his loss at Extreme Rules by defeating Cesaro. Unfortunately for Van Dam, the win came by way of disqualification, and he took plenty of punishment at the hands of Cesaro. Next up on the bill for WWE Monday Night Raw in Albany, Ryback landed his signature Shell Shocked maneuver to pin Cody Rhodes for a much-needed victory.
Elsewhere, Alexander Rusev continued his meteoric rise by defeating Kofi Kingston by submission. Following the bout, it was announced that Rusev would be losing his first name to make it easier for fans to remember him. He's now being billed as Rusev, and hailing from Russia rather than Bulgaria. It appears the WWE is hoping to play up Rusev's villain status by making the move.
Also on the WWE Monday Night Raw main card, Daniel Bryan defeated ADR by submission. However, Bryan was attacked by Kane as he was celebrating the victory. It's clear there's plenty of tension left between Bryan and Kane. Their feud is clearly not even close to being over, especially after Bryan beat him at Extreme Rules.
The WWE also showed fans as Adam Rose video package to help hype his upcoming promotional debut. Next on the bill, Bad News Barrett defeated Big E for the second time in two days. Barrett originally tapped out Big E at Extreme Rules, and he got the job done against at WWE Monday Night Raw in Albany.
In the WWE Monday Night Raw headliner, The Wyatt Family avenged an early-career loss by defeating The Shield. As WWE Universe knows by now, The Shield coasted to a victory over The Wyatt Family at Elimination Chamber. Unfortunately for "The Hounds of Justice," The Wyatt Family returned the favor with a win at "Raw."
